Heartsaver CPR/AED Course

 

About
This course is certified by the Irish Heart Foundation and is the number one CPR course in Ireland. The course covers a range of topics to do with cardiac emergencies. It will also teach you how to use an AED, when it should be used and who should use it. This course focuses very heavily on practical skills and student participation. By the end of the course the students will have completed numerous cycles of CPR while using a defibrillator, this is all designed to make the student more comfortable and confident, if ever asked to carry out the skills for real.

Family and friends CPR


The Family & Friends CPR Course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment by using the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible. Family & Friends CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life.

Basic First Aid


Our Basic First Aid Training Course in Dublin will teach you first aid skills, which are invaluable if accidents happen in the home or when you're out and about. This course doesn't include CPR. Our Basic First Aid Training Course run in Dublin will provide the first aid skills necessary to help a patient that is not breathing normally, is unconscious, ill or is bleeding or injured. The Basic First Aid Course is designed to meet the recommendations of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations. The course covers a number of areas including: Looking after the casualty and yourself; Treatment of minor burns and minor bleeding; Caring for an unconscious casualty; Communication and casualty care; Treatment of choking and Treatment of sprains, strains and biting. We run our courses nationwide.

Sports First Aid


Our Sports First Aid Training Course in Dublin is designed to ensure you have the expertise in theory and practice to manage sporting emergencies.This Sports First Aid Training Course run in Dublin is a must for Coaches, Mentors, Sports People, Referees and Managers. Our course uses the most up to date teaching techniques used by IHF & AHA. When you attend the course you will be shown the best way to deal with every day sports injuries either in School, Club all the way to Inter County Level. This course covers the following areas: Stroke; Heart Attack; Sudden Cardiac Arrest; Choking. Our training course is taught using both theory and practice. Occupational First Aid

 

About
This 3 day course covers a large amount of material. Everything from bandaging, minor wounds, sprains and strains up to and including heart attack, epileptic fit's and administration of aspirin for cardiac chest pain. It will involve a lot of practical work and include the skills necessary to carry out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).


Course Syllabus
Unit 1: First Aid in the workplace – This Module covers the role of the occupational first aider, the legal requirements and how to effectively ensure the safety of the first aider in the work place.


Unit 2: Patient Assessment – After this module, the candidate will be able to do a primary survey on a potential casualty. They will know how to take vitals (pulse, breathing, etc) signs and treat a casualty with a suspected neck injury.


Unit 3: Respiratory Emergencies – This module covers the functions of the respiratory system and shows the occupational First Aider how to manage a choking patient as well how to do mouth to mouth ventilation's.


Unit 4: Cardiac first response – After this module the student will understand the chain of survival and will be able to activate their links, by calling for an ambulance, starting CPR and using a Defibrillator effectively.


Unit 5: Wounds and Bleeding – This module teaches the student how to deal with blood injuries. They will know how to recognise the different types of wounds and know how to treat them. They will be able to deal with head, eye and facial injuries as well as effectively minimizing the consequences of internal bleeding.


Unit 6: Altered levels of consciousness – The student learns how to treat shock and how to do the recovery position. This will allow them to treat a casualty who has reduced or lost consciousness.


Unit 7: Musculoskeletal injuries – At the end, the student will be able to treat patients who have fractured (broken) bones as well as deal effectively with casualties who have sprains, strains and dislocations.


Unit 8: Burns and scalds, chemicals, electric shock – this module covers the treatment of major and minor burns as well as the many different causes of burns. It also covers poisoning and how to treat someone who has been poised. The student will cover electrical shock and how to manage a patient who has been electrocuted.

 

Certification
Students who successfully complete this course will receive a Medicore Medical Services Occupational First Aid Certificate, they will also receive a FETAC Level 5 award. This is valid for 2 years.

Occupational First Aid Refresher


This course is open to people who have successfully completed a recognised FETAC Level 5 Occupational First Aid. For student's where this is not their first re-certification, they will require a certificate or letter from the previous training provider stating that they have completed the previous re-certification. Where students have allowed their FETAC cert to lapse, a 3 month grace period can be given. Anything longer than 3 months requires the student to sit the full Occupational First Aid Course again. During the refresher class students will be re-certified in CPR, AED & Aspirin administration. Other first aid topics will also be covered in order to ensure students skills are not lost or forgotten.

Certification
Upon completion of this course students will be provided with an Occupational First Aid certificate. This will be valid for 2 years and will be used in conjunction with your FETAC cert to show your qualifications and upskilling. Please note that FETAC does not issue certificates in respect of refresher training.

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider


It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out of hospital settings.These health care providers may include (but are not limited to) Physicians, Medical Students, General Practitioners, General and Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Managers and Staff Nurses, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, Dentists, Respiratory Therapists, Cardiac Technicians, Cardiac Rehabilitation Staff, Physiotherapists, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Nursing Students, Care Assistants and other Allied Health care Personnel.

About
Actively participate in, practice, and complete all skills and skills assessments. Demonstrate competence in the performance on manikins using the American Heart Association's critical skills checklists while performing the following skills. Adult & Child one rescuer CPR. Adult two rescuer CPR with an AED. Infant one and two rescuer CPR Score 84% in the post-course MCQ

Manual Handling


To Increase awareness of safe manual handling of loads and to reduce the risk of occupational injury while carrying out manual handling tasks in the workplace. To identify the skills and techniques involved in safe lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or, moving a load. To gain practice and gain feedback on these skills and techniques. To comply with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, The Safety Health and Welfare at Work,(General Application) Regulations 2007.

Off Site Safety Management Course


This course is a must for those involved in planned visits either in Ireland or overseas, whatever the context. Spread over 2 days it offers a more in-depth look at the safety management issues involved in planning, managing and evaluating local visits, fieldtrips, residentials and exchanges. Relevant for educational visit coordinators, teachers, youth leaders, and university lecturers - anyone responsible for off-site visits within their organisation.

 

The Off-Site Safety Management course (OSSM) was designed in response to concerns about safety in off-site activities. It addresses the content of legislation in this area and provides an opportunity for attendees to explore the application of the legislation in practical situations. The OSSM course will be appropriate for those working in a range of different situations where they are responsible for taking children/young people/adults out of their everyday environments (e.g. on geography or environmental field trips, on sporting away events, on organised activities). It aims to equip attendees with the ability to apply knowledge, understanding and problem solving skills in a range of contexts.
